This Paediatric Emergency First Aid Course Unit 1 is the first part of the full Paediatric First Aid Course – Level 3 (12 Hours).

It only partially meets Ofsted requirements, so if you are a childcare professional working in England, you may need to complete both Units 1 & 2 of the full Paediatric First Aid Course.

Who Should Attend?

The course is suitable for Pre-School or Nursery staff, play workers or Children’s Centre staff, teachers or teaching assistants, Parent & Toddler Group volunteers, childminders & nannies, au-pairs, babysitters, community youth workers, foster parents, parents, relatives or carers.

Course Content

A range of subjects is covered including:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider
  • Primary survey
  • Secondary assessment
  • Resuscitation and epilepsy
  • Airway obstruction
  • Wounds, bleeding and shock
  • Anaphylaxis

Course Duration

A minimum of 6 hours makes up unit 1, consisting of theoretical and practical work.

Assessment and Certification

Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will undertake an ongoing assessment of each individual throughout the course.

A certificate will be issued to successful delegates on completion of the course.


A maximum of twelve students can be accommodated on this course and each participant must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above.
